The 7th-floor ballroom is especially impressive, with 14-foot floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Potomac River, the Wharf, and the National Mall. This Gothic Revival home is where Abraham Lincoln retreated from the heat and bustle of the White House, and where he drafted the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, the historic home sits within the gated grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, creating a surprisingly tranquil atmosphere surrounded by trees and open lawns. Ceremonies are best on the South Lawn, followed by a cocktail hour touring the historic home, and then a tented reception to finish the night.
